Today we are going to be analysing the conventions of different stories. The main focus of today's lesson is to be able to identify a fantasy story using your understanding of its conventions/features.

Step 1

First, look at the model below and read the conventions of both a Fable and Legend. Then, read the model texts below. After you have read them both, can you identify which one is a Fable and which one is a Legend by what conventions each of them include.

THAT'S RIGHT!

 

Gelert is a Legend because it is a historical narrative that has been passed down through generations.

 

The Tortoise and the Hare is a Fable because it has a moral to the story that aims to teach you a lesson.

Step 2

Read the conventions of a fantasy below. The conventions of a fantasy are important for your task today, so make sure you understand what they are.

3 of these video clips include conventions of a Fantasy. Your task is to identify which 3 out of the 5 video clips are a Fantasy story.
