LC to know how to give first aid for a bite or sting.

LC to know how to make a clear emergency call.

Last week we had an introductory lesson to first aid, dealing with a minor bleed. It is always useful to know what to do if you or a friend has a small bleed.

Today we are going to look at ‘bites and stings’. We might be bitten or stung at any time of the year, however the Summer is a particularly likely time to be stung as there are more insects and plants in our outdoor environment.

We are going to play a game. Your teacher will make the actions of an animal or insect. You need to write the animal or insect on your whiteboard and decide if it might bite or sting you. Hold up your whiteboard to show your teacher.

Now we will look at how to treat a bite or a sting. Read through the poster with your teacher. Ask if there are any parts that you do not understand. It is important to be clear about the information.

You are going to treat yourself for a sting. Your teacher will give you the card, the cold compress and any other items you need. Use them to go through the process. When you arrive at the emergency call the class will come back together to learn how this can be done safely.

Remember to tell the emergency service -

Now it’s your turn! Your teacher will give you a situation and you need to make the emergency call.

Teachers please video the child who makes the clearest call.
