Solving Two-step Word Problems involving Addition and Subtraction.

Steps to solve two-step word problems:

1. Read the whole of the problem once.

2. Go back to the beginning of the problem and read each sentence in

   turn.

3. As you do this, visualise the problem. Can you put yourself into the

   problem to help?

4. After reading each sentence, decide if you are given enough

information to do a calculation. If you have, complete the

calculation at that point before moving on to the next part.

Do you need to add or subtract? Look for key words to help.

5. By the time you reach the question at the end of the problem, you

will more than likely have already worked out the answer if you

   have followed the above steps.

Use the steps above to work through three two-step word problems.

Record these in your book.
