Today we are going to start looking at shapes.

 

To begin with we need to be able to identify and name the different shapes there are.

 

There are 2 different types of shapes. 2D and 3D.

 

Lets have a look at 2D shapes first.

 

2D shapes are shapes with two dimensions, such as width and height. They are usually said to be "flat".

 

Below is a picture of the most common 2D shapes. (If you watch the video I will be discussing these).

 

 

Now lets look at 3D shapes.

 

3D shapes are shapes with three dimensions, such as width, height and depth.

 

Below is a picture of the most common 3D shapes. (If you watch the video I will be discussing these).

 

 

You may notice that the 3D shapes are made up using 2D shapes. e.g. The Triangular Prism is made up of triangles and rectangles.

 

This is going to come in handy when we look at the nets of shapes later this week.

 

Now go onto Purple mash and complete the 2 2do that have been set.
