Yesterday we did well.

Today we are going to look at working out how much time has passed between 2 set times again but this time we are going to use timelines to help us work out the answers. Make sure we understand this make sure you are paying attention and reading carefully.

Lets start easy to help us understand.

What times are shown on the clocks below?

3:00 ---------> 5:00

Now we need to use a timeline and look at making small steps to help us answer the question of how long it has taken.

So to take smaller steps we can use hours to help us look at the image below and you will notice that we have jumped forward in 1 hour gaps.

Now to work out the answer we add up the jumps.

1 Hour + 1 Hour = 2 Hours

Lets have another look with another example.

What times are shown on the clocks below.

6:00 ---------> 7:30

Now draw a timeline.

First thing you need to add are the times shown.

Next make your jumps. Look at the example to see how this is done.

Now lets add up the jumps.

1 Hour + 30 Minutes = 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Lets have another look at 1 more example.

What times are shown on the clocks below.

6:45 ---------> 7:30

Now draw a timeline.

First thing you need to add are the times shown.

Next make your jumps. Look at the example to see how this is done.

Last step add up the jumps.

15 Minutes + 30 Minutes = 45 Minutes

Your work today

Using the technique we have looked at in this lesson work out the following passing of time questions.

  1. 4:45 ---------> 7:00
  2. 3:35 ---------> 5:25
  3. 6:45 ---------> 8:30
  4. 1:55 ---------> 4:05
  5. 2:30 ---------> 5:10
  6. 8:50 ---------> 11:30
  7. 11:35 ---------> 12:30
  8. 2:40 ---------> 7:30
  9. 6:45 ---------> 9:15
  10. 11:25 ---------> 3:05

Home learners please could you take a photo of your answered questions and email it to Mr Hindman on Purple Mash.
