Maths

Today, we are going to continue to solve word problems.

Have a look at the In focus question below.

Find the key information in the text. Have you noticed that this is in pictures and words.

Do you notice that there is a pattern? 1 red bead followed by 2 green beads then 1 red bead starts again followed by 2 green beads.

If there is 1 red bead out of 3 beads in total that means 1/3 of the necklace would be red.

Lets try the total amount 440 divided by 3.

Use the bus stop method and see what answer you get.

Well done if you got 146 r2.

Now, if we have r2 – we need to draw the final group of beads and the 2 final beads.

We have 146 groups of 3 beads plus an extra red bead makes 147 so the greatest number of red beads is 147.

What if we have 90 beads?

What calculation do you need to do?

That’s right. It’s 90 divided by 3 and the answer is … 30.

Have a go at the 3 Guided practice questions now.

Remember to understand the problem carefully so you know what operation you need to use.

Be careful as the answers might include remainders.

Now, you are ready to complete some examples of your own. Complete worksheet 4 below in your home learning book. Take a picture of your work and email it to your teacher. Good luck!
