Maths

Today, we are going to be solving word problems.

Have a look at the In focus question below.

What information is important and what do we need to help us solve the problem?

Do you think we have all the information that we need?

You must identify the main information in the problem.

How many batches are there?

How many trays are there?

How many cupcakes are there on each tray?

Do you think we need to add, subtract, divide or multiply?

We know that there are 6 batches that have been made and there are 8 trays. If we multiply these we have 48 trays.

Next, we have 12 cupcakes on each tray so we multiply 48 and 12 to get 576 cupcakes as shown below.

Finally, the cupcakes are shared into boxes of 4 so if we divide 576 by 4 we get 144 boxes which has also been showed below.

Now, lets try Q2 which is below.

Sam is now packing 576 cupcakes into boxes of 7.

If we share 576 by 7 what would our answer be? Try the bus stop method and see if you get the same answer.

If you tried the bus stop method, check to see whether you got the same answer as me.

Your bus stop method should have looked like this:

Well done if you got this correct!

Now, have a go at the Guided practice question above then complete worksheet 1 in your home learning book.

Take a picture of your work and email it to your teacher.

Remember to read the question carefully, understand it, pick out the key information and see what operations you need to do to help you solve it.
