Maths

Lets continue our learning of multiplication but today we are going to multiply 3 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers.

Have a look at the In focus question.

Can you show me a bar model to show how we could get an answer?

Now, show me the grid method. What would that look like?

There are pictures used here of the Hong Kong dollars but it is still using the grid method to multiply.

Q2 uses the same calculation but we know that 132 x 10 means making the number 10 times greater which is 1320. Next, use our knowledge of doubles – 132 doubled makes 264.

Use a column method now to add them together and we get the same answer = 1584

Q3 uses the column method to multiply.

There are two steps. Multiply 132 by 2 then 132 by 10 as shown below.

Now use the same method as above to solve 13 x 213.

First multiply 213 x 3 = 639

Then 213 x 10 = 2130

Finally, add together 639 and 2130 = 2769

Now try this question on your own.

Well done if you got the answer 2904.

Complete worksheet 14 in your home learning book. Take a picture of your work and email it to your teacher through purple mash.

There are models on both pages which show you how to work them out. Go through the models and use these to help you.
