Well done yesterday.

Today we are going to continue to looking at area.

 

Lets look at the in focus task.

 

 

We need to find out how many square tiles it takes to make the shape provided. 

To do this we need to split the shape up. 

 

 

 

As you can see the shape is made up of 8 square tiles. 

 

Now lets have a look at the question below.

 

 

The blue shape covers 6 times the surface that the square tile covers.

 

The red shape covers 5 times the surface that the square tile covers.

 

This means that the blue shape covers more surface area.

 

3 more shapes now.

 

 

The green shape covers 2 times the surface that the square tile covers.

 

The blue shape covers 4 times the surface that the square tile covers.

 

The pink shape covers 4 times the surface that the square tile covers.

 

Your Activity

 

On Seesaw you have been given some shapes. Using the same method can you work out the number of tiles it would take to make the shape.
