We are going too look at area this week.

Area is the amount of space taken up by a 2D shape or surface. We measure area in square units : cm² or m².

Today we are going to focus on working out the area of shapes.

Look at the shape below.

Each small square is 1 cm²

To work out the area of this shape we can simply count each of the small squares.

This shape is 12 cm²

Lets have a look at another shape.

Let's count the squares.

This shape is 4 cm²

Your task

On Seesaw you will have lots of shapes.

You are going to need to count the squares in each shape to find out the area.

Once you have worked out the area of a shape you need to colour it in as follows:

3 cm² - Colour Blue

4 cm² - Colour Green

5 cm² - Colour Red

6 cm² - Colour Yellow
