Solving Money Problems

Part Two

Introduction

Yesterday, we solved money problems when we buy multiples of an item.
Today, we are going to use those skills to help us work out how much money is being spent and then work out how much change we will get.

Let's Learn

If you get paid with £5, how much change would you get?

First work out the cost

£1 x 2 = £2.00

40 x 2 = £0.80

 2 x 2 =  £0.04

              £ 2.84

We have spent £2.84

so we need to take this away from £5.00.

Working out the cost

Small red bag of crisps = £0.79 or 79p each

Large green bag of crisps  = £2.09 or 209p

There are 2 bags of each:

2 x 70 = 140                 2 x 200 = 400

2 x 9 =     18                 2 x   0 =     00

              158             +  2 x   9 =     18

                                                     418

Add these 2 amounts together.

This is 576p or £5.76

Next, we are going to work out how much change we would get from £10.00 (or 1000p).

You would get £4.24 change.
