Mathematics 1st lesson

 = 50p

 = £5

= 5p

If there are no tens remember to put a 0 as a place holder.

Example: (a) £1 and 5p = £1.05

   H T O

    1 0 5   105p = £1.05

If there are no £s remember to put a 0 a a place holder.

Example: (b) 50p + 10p + 5p

     H T O

         5 0

         1 0

    +      5

     0  6  5   = 65p  = £0.65

Remember £1 = 100p

So we can use the hundreds, tens and ones column.

so £6 and 5p we would write or draw like this:

  H  T O

  6  0  5

this is 605p or £6.05
