LC: To identify and analyse the features of an opening statement in explanation texts.
Today, we are going to look at opening statements and how they are written in explanation texts.
Opening statements in explanation texts should include some or all of the following:
-a general statement about the topic
-a brief description of what you will be
explaining
- a question or definition
Here is the opening statement of our main text 'How are humans able to hear?' It includes two of the features above.
Take a look at some more opening statements.
Can you identify any of the above features within them?
