Literacy 2

Tuesday 15th December, 2020

LC: To write the ending to a story.

LC: To improve writing in light of evaluation.

In this lesson, you are first going to finish writing your fantasy story using your boxed-up plan. You will need the ending part of your plan in order to do this.

Before you begin, orally retell the ending part to your story so you know what it must include. You can then work on the extra detail when you come to write it.

You can use the Snow Queen T4W text and the  Sea Queen teacher text to help you.

Original text (Snow Queen)

In the end, Gerda embraced Kay and together they travelled back home on the Snow Queen’s sleigh. Once they had arrived home, the church bells rang out and everyone cheered and celebrated. As their families ran out to greet them, Kay and Gerda realised they were now as tall as their parents. Several years had passed on their adventure and they were no longer children.

Teacher text (Sea Queen)

In the end, Lucy freed Tom from his prison, embraced him and together they travelled back home on the backs of the Sea Queen’s sharks. Once they had arrived home, the church bells rang out and everyone cheered and celebrated. As they walked past a shop window and peered at their reflections, Lucy and Tom realised they were now as tall as their parents. Ten years had passed on their adventure and they were no longer children.

Use the scaffold below to help you write the ending to your fantasy story.

In the end, ______________________________________________. Once they had arrived home, _________________________________. As ___________________________, _________________________. ____________ had passed on their adventure and they were no longer children.

Record your ending in your exercise book.

Final Task

Now that you have finished your story, read through the whole story and check spelling, punctuation and grammar.

After this, read your story aloud to your partner. What is their opinion of your story? What did they like? What could be improved?

Make improvements to your story based on the feedback given. Check you have covered all the writing skills we have been learning about.
