LC:  To identify inverted commas and other speech punctuation to show direct speech.

Direct speech reports the actual words of a speaker.

Your Task

1) Reread The Pied Piper of Hamelin text and identify the direct speech sentences.

Clue: Look for the inverted commas to help you. 

Highlight the direct speech sentences when you have found them. 

 

2) Look carefully at what the characters said and how they spoke.

Clue: Look for the punctuation marks .   ?   !

How did they say the words?

 

Collect words for said that match the punctuation mark.
