Complex Sentences

L.C: To write complex sentences

What is a complex sentence?

complex sentences contain a main clause and at least one subordinate clause.

What is a main clause?

A main clause is the part of the sentence that makes sense on its own.

For example:

Katie read the next chapter of her book

What is a subordinate clause?

A subordinate clause is part of a sentence that does NOT make sense on its own.

For example:

While she sipped on her strawberry milkshake

Can you see that when you read this sentence, you are still waiting for more information?

We need more information about what Katie is doing while she is drinking her milkshake, for the sentence to make sense.

Complex Sentence

Katie read the next chapter of her book while she sipped on her strawberry milkshake.

To connect the main clause and the subordinate clauses, you need subordinating conjunctions like afterwhile, or since.

Your Task

Once you have completed 1 complex sentence choose another subordinate conjunction to write another.
