LC: To understand and identify phrases and clauses

A clause can be used either as a whole sentence  or as part of a sentence. A clause always contains a verb. 

 

A phrase does not contain a verb. A phrase does not make sense on its own. 

The balloon popped            with a loud bang.

Let's have a go at these together.

 

the dog chewed its bone ____________

 

rough and prickly __________

 

without his jacket ___________

 

stand over there ___________

 

as tall as a giant __________

 

the lady sneezed __________
