LC: To write an independent narrative

Today, you are going to write an independent narrative based on the poem, The Highwayman. To do this, you will need your planning that you completed - boxing up the poem.

There are certain elements that you need to include in your writing today. These are listed below.

  • Create imagery in your writing through the use of similes, metaphors and personification.  You must consider the vocabulary that you use when you are writing these - carefully selected words will help to create precise imagery.
  • Use shifts in formality. Today you can use these in the speech/dialogue - what the characters say. This must be punctuated accurately with the correct punctuation marks.

Tim watched intently as the highwayman entered the stable yard, "Ya li'l weasel, don't ya dare go near that window!" he whispered to himself.

In the sentence above, I have use formal tone in the green parts, and informal tone in the blue part of the sentence.

If you are working from home, please could you use the template on Seesaw (The Highwayman Narrative) to complete your narrative. remember, we are re-writing the poem as a narrative.
