LC: To identify persuasive devices in letters

Yesterday, we looked at persuasive language and you watched a famous speech by Martin Luther King. Did you notice some of the persuasive techniques he used? He certainly used repetition  - "I have a dream..."

Today, you are going to look for more persuasive techniques, but this time you are going to look at persuasive writing in persuasive letters.

People write persuasive letters for all kinds of reasons. This is Mr Grimshaw's local newspaper for this week. Have a look at the headline - what letter might you write?

Below is a 'bird's eye view' of the area where they are proposing to develop a new industrial area next to the River Irwell. Why might people not want this to happen? Discuss with your partner.
Have a look at some of the features of persuasive writing below. When you have had a look through this, I would like you to have a look at the three persuasive letters beneath this. See how many of the features that you can see in the letters. Make a list in your book and provide examples.
