Welcome to the Stoneyholme Summer School Eco Challenge
The focus of your challenge is Healthy Living.
Being outside and enjoying fresh air is so important for our physical and mental wellbeing.
We are very lucky to live near some beautiful parks and gardens in Burnley. Your challenge is to design a perfect park!
Before you can start designing and creating your own park, you will need to do some research.
Choose a day to enjoy a visit to a local park. Thompson park would be an excellent choice and is only a 15-minute walk away.
When you are at the park, have lots of fun exploring and playing. You could take a small diary with you and record what you can see. As you walk, run or cycle through the park, make sure you take time to pause and close your eyes- make a note of what sounds you can hear.
Thompson park is organised into different areas.
Enjoy exploring the whole park and remember to take plenty of photos.
When you get home, it is time to create your own park. You could create it using pencil drawing, collage or even make a 3D model using recycled materials. You need to make it as bright and as colourful as possible.
EYFS to Year 5 can earn a pass, merit, or distinction by taking part in this challenge and doing the following:
Pass- Simply design your park.
Merit- Design your park. Label the different areas.
Distinction- Design your park. Label the different areas. Research and include eco-friendly features in your design.
