Class Charter

In Year 1, we have been thinking about our rights. We have started the year by looking at the rights and duties of the Right Holders (child) and Duty Bearers (adult).

We looked at Article 28 during our transition days, and talked about what good learning looks like, what we can do to help ourselves and others and what responsibilities Duty Bearers have to help us learn.

We learned how acorns grow into mighty oak trees, so we made our own acorns to show that we promise to help each other grow and learn.

We have been learning about our right to access reliable information when we use research to find new facts.

We have also been learning about our right to access reliable information in History, were we discussed which information we can trust. Click here to find out more.

We have been learning about the responsibilities of our families to protect our rights by guiding and directing us as we grow up.

We have been learning about our right to speak freely about matters that affect us and how this has a positive impact on our mental health.

We have been learning that we have rights no matter what we look like, what language we speak or what religion we have, if any.

We have been learning about our right to chose to practice a religion or not and how we can express love for others.

We have been learning that every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

We learnt that article 29 must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

We linked our learning of Article 27 to History when we investigated what happened to the refugees in London during and after the Great Fire of London.

We have been sharing our thoughts about stories we have read during Storytelling Week. Click on the picture below to find out more.

We have been learning about what it means to belong to a family and our rights to an identity.
