Autumn 1

English

 

In English, we are going we are going to be learning about legends. We will be focusing of  The Legends of Gelert.  Children will be exposed to this legend and will use this story to innovate and write their own version. Towards the end of the term we will be writing a non chronological report linked to our History topic (Ancient Greece).

Maths

 

In Maths, we are going to be be following the Maths No problem Scheme.  
This will involve:

Reading and writing and comparing numbers to 1, 000, 000.

Making number patterns.

Rounding numbers up to 100 000.

Adding and subtracting using formal methods.

Multiplying and dividing using formal methods.

 

History

 

This term our focus will be studying Greek life and achievement and their influence on the western world. 

Whilst completing this work we will explore the concept of power and change.  We will look the power that the Ancienct Greeks had and how this influenced our world today.

Computing

 

In Computing, we are going to be learning about Online safety and how to make the right choice when using technology. 

Art

 

In Art, we are going to be linking our learning with Ancient Greece and focusing images from the achievements including Greek architecture.  We will be using photographs and images to draw with proportion and scale. 

R.E.

 

In R.E, we  learned about Christianity with a focus on Christian beliefs about sin and forgiveness. We looked at the teaching from Genesis of how Adam and Eve disobeyed God and what Christians believe this story teaches them about sin and forgiveness. 

Towards the end of our learning sequence, we visited St Johns Roman Catholic Church in Burnley. We wanted to learn about different Christian Practices relating to confessing, repenting and being forgiven for sins. There were lots of interesting things to learn about at the Church. We found out how and where Catholics confess their sins to God.

Music

 

In Music, we will be using the Charanga scheme to learn about how music is used to bring us together.

P.E.

Invasion Games: Tag Rugby

We will use consistency, accuracy and control when passing and catching a ruby ball. We will apply simple tactics to outwit opponents when playing a game and make decisions on when to pass. We will also apply simple attacking and defending tactics and apply these in ruby games. Finally, we will evaluate our own and others work and suggest ways of improvement.

British Values and Rights Respecting

 

We will continue to develop our understanding of British Values linking them through our learning and in our assembly times. This half term we will focus on Democracy and the Rule of Law.

 

We will focus on article 29: Education must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

LOTC and ECO

 

Have a look below at some of the pictures of children who have been collecting leaves for mulching the beds and weeding different areas around school ready for planting. All the children have used various tools and equipment safely. 

We had a special visit from the BAE / RAF Navy to talk to us about magnets.
