The Floating Island
The island had appeared overnight.
When people looked up that morning, it was simply there—hovering above the town, surrounded by swirling clouds. At first, everyone thought it was a trick of the light. Then binoculars revealed trees, waterfalls and what looked like a ruined stone tower.
For three days, scientists, reporters and curious visitors gathered below.
Then, on the fourth day, a rope ladder slowly unrolled from the clouds and touched the ground.
Attached to the bottom rung was a note:
One visitor only.
Everyone turned to look at Alex.

The Cave
Paragraph 1 – Geoff Disappeared
Tom and Geoff were sitting on the edge of an old quarry when the ground suddenly collapsed beneath Geoff. He slid down the slope and disappeared into a dark hole. Tom called out to his friend and, after hearing him scream, tried to climb down to help. However, he lost his footing and fell into the hole as well.
Paragraph 2 – The Mysterious Cave
Tom landed in a cave where he found Geoff unharmed. While looking around, the boys discovered a skeleton wearing Roman armour, which frightened them both. As they explored further, they noticed a strange red machine hidden in the darkness. It had seats, glowing lights and mysterious writing on its surface.
Paragraph 3 – Activating the Machine
The boys climbed into the machine and watched as more lights switched on. Geoff was curious and wanted to find out what the machine did, but Tom wanted to think carefully before touching anything. Eventually, Geoff pressed one of the blue buttons. Instantly, there was a bright flash of light, a loud noise and everything around them disappeared.
Paragraph 4 – The Machine Took Off
When the light faded, Tom and Geoff realised they were high above the ground. Looking down, they could see fields, trees and a river far below them. Geoff thought he knew how to get back down and carefully pressed another button. Instead of descending, the machine began moving backwards, leaving the boys unsure of where they were going next.
