The sun was beginning to set as Ayaan stepped up to the crease. His team needed just six runs to win, but only one wicket remained. The crowd around the boundary held its breath.
Ayaan tightened his grip on the bat. He could hear the bowler’s footsteps growing louder as he ran in. The ball flew towards him. Ayaan swung—crack!—and the ball raced across the field.
“Run!” shouted his partner.
They ran once, twice… the fielders scrambled. Three… four… The ball was thrown back toward the stumps. Five… six!
The umpire raised his arm. “Not out!”
The crowd erupted in cheers as Ayaan smiled, exhausted but proud. He had done it.
R - How many runs did Ayaan’s team need to win?
I - How do you think Ayaan was feeling before the final ball?
C - How does the author build tension during the match?
