LC: To explain the meaning of ecumenical and describe the role of places like Taize where Christians from different backgrounds might come together to worship.

Starter activity

Discuss with your talk partner:

Why might people who believe the same thing still disagree?

Today's lesson, we will learn and focus on Ecumenical and Taize.

What is Ecumenism?

Ecumenism means different Christian groups coming together. Christians may worship in different ways, but they try to get along. Ecumenism helps Christians work together, respect each other and live in peace. Christians believe it is important to stay united.

Psalm 133:1 'How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!'

What is Taizé?

Taizé is a Christian community in France. It was started in 1940 by a man called Brother Roger. He wanted to create a place where people could live in peace, especially during a time of war. Over time, more men joined him and formed a brotherhood. Today, Taizé is a place where thousands of people visit each year. Many of them are young people from different countries and different Christian backgrounds. At Taizé, people:

- pray together

- sing simple songs

- live simply

- spend time in silence

Even though they come from different traditions, they worship together peacefully. Taizé is an example of ecumenism because it brings different Christians together.

We are going to watch two videos, use your whiteboards to make notes.
