Faith – Trusting Before Seeing
Faith is a word Christians use to describe trusting God, even when they cannot see everything clearly yet. It is about believing, hoping, and choosing to trust in something that feels important and true.
Faith can be explained using everyday examples.
Imagine you are about to paint a picture. You have a blank page in front of you, but you believe you can turn it into something beautiful because you have paints, brushes, and ideas in your mind. You cannot see the finished picture yet, but you trust that it will appear as you work. You keep going, adding colour and shape, even before you know exactly how it will turn out. That kind of patient trust is similar to faith.
Another example is baking cookies. Before the cookies go into the oven, they are just lumps of dough. You cannot taste them yet, but you believe they will become warm and delicious because you followed the recipe and have baked before. You trust the process, even though the result is still hidden. This, too, shows what faith can feel like — believing something good is coming, even before you can see it.
Christians say faith in Jesus is like this. They have not seen Jesus in person, but they believe in him because there are stories and teachings that help them understand who he was and what he taught. These writings tell stories about how Jesus helped people, showed kindness, and brought hope. Because Christians trust these scriptures, they choose to believe in Jesus and learn from what he taught.
Christians believe that having faith is not only about believing in their minds, but also about how they live each day. They try to follow Jesus’ example by being kind, forgiving others, helping people who are struggling, and praying when they feel worried or thankful. They believe that by doing these things, they grow closer to God and become stronger inside.
For Christians, faith is like holding onto hope when life feels uncertain. It is trusting that God cares, even in difficult moments. It is choosing to keep believing, learning, and loving, even when the full picture cannot yet be seen.
