Morning Work

Grammar Warm Up

LC: to identify commas that clarify meaning

Read the sentence below.

Hurry up and shoot dad!

Talk to your partner about what could be happening in that sentence.

Add a comma to these sentences so that the meaning is clear.

  1. Let's eat grandma!
  2. I like cooking my family and my pets.
  3. The police chased the lions in their fast car.

LC: to read and respond to a range of recount texts

Watch your teacher model how to turn your notes from yesterday into a paragraph showing what you inferred from the recount text.

 She will write about:

- who is writing the diary

- how we know

- what the narrator is talking about

- where the setting is

Who/What/Where?

Teacher Model about her recount:

Who

The diary is written by the big bad wolf from the fairy tale, 'Little Red Riding Hood'. I know this because it says in the text

'.... call me 'big' and 'bad. It's just not fair! ... Aren't wolves supposed to hunt in the forest?'

What

The wolf is talking about being  hungry and looking for some food. He sees a little girl and plans to eat her. I know this because it says in the text,

' .... these hunger pains are torturing me. .... imagine how I felt when I caught sight of a plump and juicy girl...'

Where

The recount takes place in the forest. It says in the text,

'... a little girl, wandering alone in the forest.'

When

The event is happening on 21st February. I know this because there is a date at the top of the recount.

'21st February'.

Now use your notes from yesterday to write a paragraph about your recount using the same structure as the model paragraph above.

 MID-YEAR REVIEW (SECTION A)

LC: Why might some Christians want to go to a place associated with a miracle?

What place would you really like to visit? Why? When would you like to go there?

Have you heard the word pilgrimage? What does it mean?

A pilgrimage generally means a trip, often a long one, made to a holy place for religious reasons.

Introducing the Christian religion

Can you remember:

What do some Christian's believe was the ultimate miracle performed by Jesus?

Why do you think a Christian might want to go to Jerusalem at Easter time?

Where else do you think some Christians might want to make a pilgrimage to? Why?
