Review

Let's look again at the sentences we composed composed yesterday.  How suitable was the synonym selected for the context of the sentences. Do we need to improve any of them?

Focus: Use the first three letters of a word to find synonyms in a thesaurus.  

Can you remember how to use a thesaurus?

We will using the first three letters to locate words quickly.

 

Find a synonym for the word beautiful.

 

These new sentences each contains one of the synonyms:

The floral display was stunning!

The presenter of the award looked very elegant.

Do you think I have chosen an appropriate synonym in each case to match the context of the sentence?

Now use a thesaurus to find synonyms for the word good.

Are there any different possibilities?

Some synonyms are more appropriate than others for the context of a sentence, for example:  The employee was described as very competent at his job is more appropriate than The employee was described as very enjoyable at his job.

Using the word bank and the pictures below, practice saying some sentences which use adverbs as a sentence starter.
