/i/video/Itrat_Ali/Summer_2/English/Week_3/Wednesday/_Preposition__by_The_Bazillions.mp4

LC: Record information from non-fiction texts.

Yesterday, we had a look at some powerful noun phrases that were used on the KFC and Nando's menu.

Look at the example below and find the adjectives, preposition and past tense being used.

Let's take a look at this picture together and decide on what noun phrases we could use to describe it. Don't forget to think about using the past tense and a preposition.

Two succulent fillets of chicken...

We have been set the task of creating a new menu for spiders at the Spider and Fly restaurant.

Before we begin researching what spiders like to eat. Let's take a quick look at our toolkit that we created yesterday...

Our menu toolkit

Let's take a look at what spiders like to eat...

I will model an expanded noun phrase that uses one of the bugs above to add to out menu!

Now it's your turn to have a think...

LC: To be able to describe 3D shapes.

RIC

Next morning the people were awakened by a terrible cry from the blacksmith’s house. The blacksmith’s wife had crept early into Ivan’s room and found his bed empty. All that day the people stood around the village in groups, talking, but nobody had heard Starjik come again, and nobody could remember having known anyone as unlucky as the blacksmith and his wife. And far away, through the forest and over the hill walked Ivan. He wore his fur parka and between his teeth he held a squirrel tail, for if he had not, the wind would have frozen his breath into a mask of ice on his face.

R - Why did Ivan hold a a squirrel tail between his teeth?

I - How do you think Ivan's parents felt when they saw that Ivan was gone?

C - Why have Ivan's parents been described as unlucky?

LC: Listen and prepare play scripts to read aloud and perform.

Speak to your talk partners and tell them what you think a play is.

What is a play?

Have you ever been to the theatre to watch a play?

To be able to perform in front of an audience, we need to be able to use our loud voices confidently...

Before we get into role playing different characters, let's practice saying some short lines with the following emotions.

I will demonstrate first by saying "come with me" in the following ways, you all need to copy me:

Angrily

Happily

Frustratedly

Sluggishly

Excitedly

Scared

Evil

Now it's your turn to practice with your partners.

Say "bring me the cake" using the emotions above!

Who would like to perform in front of the class?

Now, let's take a look at a real play script...

Let's familiarise ourselves with some of the features.

Where does it tell us how we should move and act?

Have a go at practicing the first page with your partner.

LC: To describe how the Pendle Witches were treated.

Talking Partners

How were the witches treated in the video clip?

It didn't take too much to be accused of witchcraft.

In difficult times, such as years when crops failed or disease was widespread, communities would often look for supernatural causes. Witches were seen as one such supernatural cause.

Anyone who had become ill, or suffered a sudden misfortune might look for a magical reason among the people around them. Accusations of witchcraft usually came from within the suspect's community. Often they involved an argument, after which one of the people involved suffered some ill health or misfortune.

Often people accused of witchcraft confessed under torture that they were guilty. Some also implicated other people, accusing them of also being witches.

Perhaps the best known test for witchcraft was the swimming test.

This involved the accused being tied up and thrown in a river or loch.

If they sank, it was a sign that they were not a witch, and rope would be used to haul them out.

Many believed that water was pure, and would reject evil, so if the person floated it was seen as evidence that they were a witch.

All those found guilty of witchcraft in Scotland by law had to be executed.

This was most commonly done by hanging the alleged witch, and then burning their body.
