LC: To collect and classify prepositions.

A preposition is a little word that tells us wherewhen or why something is.

It shows the relationship between one thing and another.


📍 Prepositions of Place (where)

Examples:

  • on – The book is on the table.

  • under – The cat is under the bed.

  • next to – The school is next to the park.

  • in – The toys are in the box.

  • behind – The ball is behind the chair.


 Prepositions of Time (when)

Examples:

  • at – We have lunch at 12 o’clock.

  • on – My birthday is on Monday.

  • in – I was born in April.

Examples:

  1. Because of

  2. Due to

  3. Thanks to

Together we are going to identify the prepositions in Queen Meredith's Revenge. You will then put them into the correct groups.

Today we are going to find facts about the Celts and make notes in your book.

Example: 

Celtic warriors carried long, or oval shaped shields, spears, daggers and long slashing swords made of iron.

 

Let's take a look at a poster and some websites about Iron Age warriors, battles and weapons. There is a short video to watch too.

LC: To identify the main ideas drawn from more than one paragraph.

What is a main idea?
It's what the paragraph is mostly about.

What is a summary?
It's a short way to say the most important things.


Steps to Identify Main Ideas and Summarise

  1. Read each paragraph carefully.

  2. Ask: "What is this paragraph mostly about?"

  3. Look for the most important facts or ideas.

  4. Write 1 or 2 short sentences to say the main points.

  5. Put all the main points together into a short summary.

 

Example

Paragraph 1:
Bees live in hives. They work together to build their homes using wax. Each bee has a job to do.

Main Idea:
Bees live in hives and work together to build them.

Paragraph 2:
Bees collect nectar from flowers. They turn it into honey and store it in the hive. The honey is food for the bees.

Main Idea:
Bees collect nectar to make honey for food.

Summary of both paragraphs

Bees live in hives and work together to build them. They collect nectar from flowers to make honey, which they eat.

Paragraph 1:
Penguins are birds that live in cold places like Antarctica. Even though they are birds, they cannot fly. Penguins have strong flippers that help them swim quickly in the water.

Paragraph 2:
Penguins eat fish, squid, and krill. They catch their food while swimming in the ocean. Penguins also huddle together in large groups to stay warm during the freezing weather.
