Main

LC: Create and develop a setting for a narrative.

Now we have chosen a character, we are going to start planning the trick that they are going to play in our stories!

The Enormous Crocodile found children in many places in the story, where else could he find children?

We are going to choose a setting today for where the trick will take place.

I am going to choose... a theme park!

I need to describe my setting. How could I describe a theme park?

Now I am going to add my setting to my plot structure table.

Where else might YOUR new character expect to find children?

What could YOUR new trick be?

Let's add them to YOUR plot structure table!

Activity

Draw your new setting and annotate.

LC: To be able to count in 4's.

Can you see a pattern?

LC: To ask questions to improve understanding of a text.

Let's take a look back at the book that we have been reading so far. Can you remember what has happened?

Let's remind ourselves:

We are now going to read a bit further...

Can we think of any questions together?

We are going to read the following together:

Here are some question starters that might help you:

Why

When

What

Where

Think of two questions and write them in your book.

LC: To use a map to locate the capital cities and describe their position using a six-figure grid reference.

BBC Bitesize

Sometimes it is necessary to be even more accurate. In this case you can imagine that each grid is divided into 100 tiny squares. The distance between one grid line and the next is divided into tenths.

  1. First, find the four-figure grid reference but leave a space after the first two digits.
  2. Estimate or measure how many tenths across the grid square your symbol lies. Write this number after the first two digits.
  3. Next, estimate how many tenths up the grid square your symbol lies. Write this number after the last two digits.
  4. You now have a six figure grid reference. In this instance, the tourist information office is located at 476334.

Grid references

In the diagram above the four-figure grid reference for the square marked X is 8109. The six-figure grid reference for the church is 817098.

Now write the six figure grid reference and locate the name of the city.
