Welcome to Year 3!
The staff that will be teaching in Year 3 this year are Mrs Cooney (3C) and Mrs Pickup (3P). During the course of the year, Mrs Ayres, Mrs Brown, Mrs Bibi, Mrs Khatun and Miss Ali will be supporting teaching and learning in Year 3.
In Year 3 children will bring home a home reading book, a times table cards and spellings to learn. Please encourage your children to read their home reading book and practise their times tables and spellings at home.
It is expected that children in Year 3 will read their reading book every night (10 - 15 mins). Reading records are regularly checked in school and books are changed when read. Children have the opportunity to read daily whilst in school and are able to independently choose a book of interest to take home.
When your child has finished reading their book, they shall take a short quiz that will test their understanding.
Their aim is to achieve 85% or more on each quiz.
The Reading Tree Challenge!
Whilst children continue to read and regularly change their home reading books, they will climb the Reading Tree! As they climb further up the tree, they will be able to win a variety of prizes and classroom rewards. Please encourage your children to become involved in home reading as it can have huge rewards, both with their progress in school and winning fantastic new prizes!
By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables and be able to recall them quickly. Therefore, it is vitally important that children in Year 3 make a good start to learning their tables by practising them daily.
By the end of Year 3, children need to learn to read and spell all the words from the Year 3 Statutory Word List. Children will be bringing home a Year 3 spelling card soon and will have time in school to practise their spellings weekly as well as learn spelling rules.
