English - Roald Dahl
During this half term, we reading and analysing the work of Roald Dahl. We will read three of his books including; The Enormous Crocodile, The Twits and George's Marvellous Medicine. After reading the Enormous Crocodile, we will plan and write our own versions of the story using the 'Talk for Writing' process.
We will also be analysing the structure and language features of a recount, creating letters, postcards and diary entries based on our experiences this half term.
We will begin the year by revising the simple rules of number work. Place value and the number system will be our focus as well as beginning to revisit other mathematical concepts such as measurement, geometry and calculation.
Rocks and Fossils will be the focus for our Science topic this half term. We will research the process of rock formation and begin to understand how to identify sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. We will also study the process of fossilisation and find out a lot more when we visit Cliffe Castle in Keighley.
In Geography, we will study human and physical characteristics of some major cities of the UK. We will compare and contrast the counties of Cornwall and Lancashire, looking at different features including coasts, rivers and land use patterns. On a visit to Rawtenstall, we will examine ‘land use’ and how this has changed over the last 50 years.
